NorthShore Regional Medical Center Presents 195 Backpacks to Brock Elementary School

NorthShore Regional Medical Center (NSRMC) presented 195 backpacks to Brock Elementary School principal, Rose Smith, on Friday, August 11, 2006.

The backpacks, filled with school supplies, were donated by an employee volunteer organization of NSRMC’s parent company, Tenet Healthcare of Dallas, Texas. The organization also collected $2140 in donations, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, for a total of $4280 to be given to Brock Elementary.

“NorthShore Regional and Tenet are committed to supporting our community, particularly during this time of rebuilding,” stated Alan R. Cason, Chief Executive Officer of NSRMC. “We are very honored to be presenting Brock Elementary School with these supplies. The school received significant damage from the storm and many of the students were also personally affected. We are proud to be able to offer this assistance as the students and their families recover from the devastation of last year.”

“Many of Tenet’s Headquarters Office employees worked tirelessly during Hurricane Katrina and through the rebuilding effort to support our New Orleans area hospitals and now feel a close tie to the community,” said Maria Martineau Plankinton, director of the Tenet Healthcare Foundation. “We hope this backpack drive, the donations and matching funds from the Foundation will help the children of Brock Elementary, their families and teachers continue to rebuild their lives and have a happy, healthy and successful school year.”

Every year, the employee volunteer organization holds a school supply drive among the approximately 600 employees of the Tenet Healthcare office, to fill backpacks for elementary school children in the Dallas area. This year, the employee volunteer organization chose to help a school that was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
