NSRMC Raises Over $13K For Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Great Strides Walk

Over 75 NorthShore employees and their families participated in the Great Strides Walk in Slidell.

NorthShore Regional Medical Center employees raised over $10,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walk in Slidell, with an additional $3000 in matched funds from the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, for a total donation of over $13,000.

Employees made their own personal donations, and raised funds through a variety of activities, including a garage sale, pie-throwing booth, nacho sales and bake sales. NSRMC, along with the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, were the site sponsors for the walk, which took place on October 27 at John Slidell Park.

Over 75 NorthShore Regional Medical Center employees participated, with more than 300 walkers overall. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation raised $41,000 at the event. Funds from the Great Strides Walk in Slidell will go to critical cystic fibrosis research, education and care programs.

"At NorthShore Regional Medical Center we are dedicated to giving back to our community that we serve every day. Our employees are not only generous with their contributions, but also with their time and participation in community events,” said Alan R. Cason, Chief Executive Officer at NSRMC. “Sponsoring the Great Strides Walk is one of the many ways NorthShore Regional Medical Center supports the community and promotes improved health. It is part of our long-term commitment to this community. We take great pride joining for a second year with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help them raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and care programs across the country and also at home."

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that affects 30,000 adults and children in the United States. Cystic fibrosis causes life-threatening lung infections and serious digestive complications. More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the CF gene. Young people are lost every day to this disease. With the support of the CF Foundation, there have been significant advances in cystic fibrosis research and care. The median survival age has improved from early childhood in the 1950s to almost 37 years today.
