NSRMC Announces Grand Opening of Physical Medicine and Stroke Center

NorthShore Regional Medical Center (NSRMC) recently celebrated the grand opening of the Physical Medicine and Stroke Center. The Center is located in the Neuroscience Institute at 104 Medical Center Drive, behind the main hospital building, and offers full-service rehabilitation treatment for conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, amputations and more. NSRMC is the only hospital in the state of Louisiana to have acquired the Lokomat®, a system of robotic legs, treadmill and harness working in concert, that physicians believe may help some patients with spinal cord injuries learn to walk again.

The Physical Medicine and Stroke Center offers advanced technologies in an updated environment to help physicians and allied health professionals in their goal to restore lost function and improve the quality of life for patients. The newly designed Center offers 15 private rooms, a separate dining area and day room, and transitional assisted daily living room for patients who need modified independence to practice skills before discharge. The comprehensive team approach includes occupational, speech and physical therapies, and case management services.

This renovation and expansion is part of the $17.7 million in capital funding provided in 2006 by NSRMC’s parent company, Tenet Healthcare, to purchase advanced medical technology and fund patient care enhancements.

“We are very excited about the new physical environment and advanced technology we are providing for our physical medicine patients,” said Alan R. Cason, Chief Executive Officer at NSRMC. “Our goal is to help patients reach their personal best levels of mobility, function and independence. In this newly designed facility, patients may work toward this goal in a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere.”
